John,
Black History is American history. In every aspect of American life there is an example of Black excellence—from sports to science to entertainment and more—and this is a time to celebrate the achievements of the Black community.
Black History isn’t just something I was taught in school, it was the stories I was told at the dinner table growing up. My parents were civil rights activists starting in their teenage years.
Black History Month is a time to honor incredible Black leaders, but also a time to honor the countless activists who made incredible strides. Black people haven’t just struggled against systems that infringe upon their rights, but they have thrived despite them.
February is not just a celebration of our past achievements but a call to action for our future. Voting rights and access to the ballot box are the pinnacles of power in our country, and we have to continue the work of the incredible Black leaders of our past who began this fight for a stronger democracy.
Join me in commemorating Black History Month with pride, reflection, and a commitment to advancing voting rights. Together, let's build a future where justice, equality, and democracy prevail.
Together,
Stacey
