A lot of people think climate change is something that’s coming in the future. But it’s already a major problem for humanity.
Here’s the sobering truth: By the end of this year, climate change is expected to have killed more than 4 million people since 2000 - and that’s a conservative estimate!
Just as an example, in the summer of 2022, we witnessed over 60,000 deaths in Europe due to extreme heat. The monsoon season of 2023 exacerbated the spread of diseases like dengue fever, affecting nearly 5 million people and leading to over 5,000 deaths.
These are not just isolated incidents, but indicators of a worsening trend. People are losing their lives every day because of climate change.
We must continue advocating for policies to mitigate the worst impact of climate change. The work of our SEEC Members in Congress has never been more important.
