From the tragedy at the Kansas City Super Bowl parade last week to mass shootings at schools, grocery stores, and places of worship, gun violence is an epidemic in our country that cannot be ignored.

I'm proud to share that I am co-leading a bipartisan $360 million bill called the VICTIM Act to provide support services to victims' families and help make our communities safer.

In Philadelphia and across the nation, gun violence is tearing families apart and leaving victims without answers or resources to recover and return to their daily lives. The VICTIM Act is a significant step in the right direction toward ending gun violence in America.

It's well-known that too many gun violence crimes go unsolved, and right now, the percentage of unsolved murder cases is at an all-time high. Cases of Black and Hispanic victims go unsolved at an even higher rate.

The VICTIM Act would help local law enforcement by training detectives and police to investigate, solve, and respond to homicides and shootings, hiring additional personnel, investing in crime-solving technology, and providing more mental health resources and assistance with shelter, relocation, and more.

This bipartisan legislation is a no-brainer, and right now is the time to start investing in these common-sense solutions to support our communities and law enforcement.
