Hi, it’s Andrew Horne, candidate for Congress in AZ-01.
The other day I was asked why I’m running for Congress. There are a lot of reasons, but the biggest of them is my daughter. A little more than a year ago, I got this text from my daughter Eleanor while I was at work:
The fear I felt reading that text while my child hid in a closet was overwhelming… Once I could finally connect with her on a Facetime call, her end was totally dark. I immediately heard her crying. Thankfully, she was safe, but it’s that horrific feeling of helplessness that has driven me to run for Congress. Because no child should have to go through that kind of trauma. Period.
Unlike my opponent, Rep. Schweikert, I don’t believe the solution is more guns. More guns will not protect my 9-year-old daughter when there is a shooting at the mall, park, or her elementary school classroom.
Unlike Schweikert, my mission is to enact effective solutions through common sense gun reform and do everything I can so no family in our district has to feel helpless in the face of gun violence like mine did that day.
But the simple fact of the matter is that Congressional races are built from the support and dedication of REAL people who care. People like you, your friends, and your family. So if you can spare it, would you consider helping our campaign so we can make sure more families can feel safe in this community?
Here’s the truth: Schweikert has never and will never support common sense gun legislation, despite the millions of people who have died in our lifetimes due to gun violence and the constant traumatic stress on all of us.
I am running to defeat him because it’s high time we have a leader who is going to advocate for our kids’ futures—free from gun violence.
But I need your help: It will take a grassroots army to make sure we’re able to defeat Schweikert in this toss-up race. The time for action is now.
While my opponents are focusing their attention on courting big donors out of state, I’m focused on meeting voters and building this campaign right here in Arizona, where I was born and raised.
I need grassroots supporters like you to ensure we can organize district-wide and win. Will you chip in $10 or whatever you can before the week is out so we can kick start our work?
