John—The climate crisis is here, and its impact on people in the Lower Hudson Valley is already severe.
Last year was officially the hottest year on record, and New York suffered the worst air quality since the 1960s after being engulfed in smoke from the raging wildfires in Canada.
Across the nation, one in four Americans breathe air considered unhealthy as a direct result of the climate crisis. We’ve seen a five-fold increase since 2000 in the number of days unsafe for our children to play outside.
Congress has a moral obligation to meet this moment and act now. But, for decades, Republicans—backed by billions in lobbying from the fossil fuel industry—denied the climate crisis, calling it a hoax. In fact, many Republicans, including Mike Lawler, still do. Not surprising for someone who was an oil and gas lobbyist.

This is personal to me. As a millennial, I share the burden of young people worried about whether we will have a habitable planet on which to live.
