Maine Forest Service conducting "Forest Education Interest Survey”

Date: Tuesday February 20, 2024  8AM - Friday March 15, 2024 5PM 

The Maine Forest Service has developed an educational interest survey to assess the needs and preferences of Maine residents and other interested parties regarding information on the state's forest resources, management, protection, and health. This survey, containing 34 questions, should take approximately 10 to 20 minutes to complete. It covers a range of topics including woodland management, fire protection, forestry in the community, and preferred avenues for receiving information, training, and education .  

The survey will open Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 8:00AM and remain open until Friday, March 15 at 5:00PM. We kindly request your participation by filling out the survey, which can be accessed through the link provided below.  Thank you for aiding the Maine Forest Service in providing quality Forest Resources and Education!

Woodland Stewardship & Forest Carbon: What can a Forest Landowner Do To Counter Climate Change?

Presenters: Andy Whitman, Climate and Forest Carbon Specialist for the MFS, and Allyssa Gregory, Landowner Outreach Forester for the MFS.

Andy Whitman and Allyssa Gregory from the Maine Forest Service will present on ways to steward your woodland with forest carbon in mind. They will discuss forest carbon basics, forest resilience, forest carbon practices, and provide information on where to find additional resources, and who to contact for professional guidance.

Landowner 101 Adult Education Course – Houlton

Presenter: Lauren Ouellette, District Forester for MFS

If you own a woodlot in Maine and are wondering how to get started managing your property, then this is the course to take. District Forester, Lauren Ouellette with the Maine Forest Service will facilitate the 5-week course, every Wednesday night in April and the first Wednesday in May from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Houlton High School, in Houlton, Maine to bring together experienced forestry professionals to provide an interactive learning experience. During this 5-week series landowners will gain knowledge and contacts to help manage your woodlot into perpetuity. Information will include forest management planning, recreation, wildlife, maintaining health and value, forest carbon, and other topics. 

Course schedule : April 3, 10, 17, 24 & May 1, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
