Hey friend, it’s Jon Tester. If you have a minute, I'd like to
tell you a story.
"Pets" are a little different on a farm. All the animals we’ve had
served a purpose—they had to earn their keep. Chickens are for eggs.
Cats keep the mice out. Dogs keep the foxes away. You get the gist.
But I did have one dog that grew on me. His name was Gus and he was a
wily fox terrier. One of the poor pup’s ears got infected and he ended
up losing it—maybe it was the traumatic loss of a body part that formed
the odd bond between us.

Gus ended up inspiring a new campaign slogan of mine while I was in the
Montana legislature. I snapped a picture of him and sent a survey to my
constituents telling folks, “Most politicians are like my one-eared
dog—they only listen to half of what you say. I want to hear all of what
you say.”
And I’ll be damned—it worked! I got responses from all across my
district on the issues people found most important. That helped me
better serve the folks I represented, and I’m honored by the trust
Montanans continue to place in me as their U.S. senator.
Here's why I’m bringing this up: [ [link removed] ]Right now, I’m in a tough race for
re-election. To keep Montana moving forward—to keep listening and
showing up for rural communities—I’ll need your help to win in November.
Will you split $5 or whatever you can give between my
campaign and the DSCC to help beat our GOP opponents?
I’ll never stop listening to the folks on the ground about what’s
important to them, and I’ll never stop working to do right by them.
Thanks for your help—together, we’ll come out
on top.
