Day of reflection on Covid deaths

Day of reflection

The council is arranging an event to remember people who died during the Covid pandemic as part of the national Marie Curie Day of Reflection.

Our Nottingham event will take place at the council?s Covid Memorial Tree at the Forest Recreation Ground (near to the pavilion and caf?) on Sunday 3 March at 1pm. People will be encouraged to reflect, join together for a minute?s silence, and lay a daffodil by the memorial tree in memory of someone who died due to Covid.

More than 5,000 people in Nottingham died during the pandemic and it is important that we take this opportunity to remember them. Nottingham Council House will also be lit up yellow on Sunday 3 March in memory of those who died.

New homes helping to further ease council house waiting list

Bestwood

Tenants have now moved into 100 of the new council homes we?re building in Bestwood and Top Valley.?

These are the latest to be completed as part of the Building A Better Nottingham programme and are being let to people with a proven housing need.??

The properties are at three different sites ? Eastglade in Top Valley, Beckhampton in Bestwood, and Ridgeway in Top Valley.?When construction is completed across all three sites next year, almost 350 new homes will have been built and let to families and individuals on the waiting list.

Last week at Executive Board we also agreed development of 24 council homes on Woodborough Road, in St Ann?s, on the old Oakdene site.

What?s on at the Castle, Wollaton and Newstead this spring

Hacienda

Wollaton Hall

Fans of dance music can look forward to Hacienda At Wollaton Hall on Saturday 31 August. The iconic music brand brings an incredible line-up including Soul II Soul, Danny Tenaglia, Roger Sanchez, Ultra Nat?, 808 State, Graeme Park, K-Klass, and Rowetta. Nottingham Castle

The STIM Cinema exhibition, running until April 14, is a touring exhibition and moving image installation exploring neurodivergence.

Newstead Abbey

At Newstead Abbey on Saturdays until 6 April you can take a ghost walk through the historic house with a glass of wine included to help steady your nerves! Tickets cost ?25 ? learn more and book here [ [link removed] ]

Register to vote in the May elections

Register to vote

Residents are being urged to register to vote in upcoming elections for the East Midlands Combined County Authority and Police and Crime Commissioner.

Voters will be heading to the polls on Thursday 2 May to have their say.

Residents across Nottingham, Derby, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire will get the chance to vote for the first-ever East Midlands Mayor, after councils gave the go-ahead ?for a ?1.14billion devolution deal for the region.?

On 2 May, residents will also be able to vote for who should be their Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), who is responsible for policing across the county, ensuring the delivery of an effective and efficient police service.

To vote for the new Mayor and the PCC, you need to be registered to vote by 11:59pm on Tuesday 16 April 2024.

Anyone over 16 can register online, although you must be 18 to vote in elections.

It takes just five minutes to register and all you need is your National Insurance number.
