** Stopping Graffiti with Rubber Duckies?
------------------------------------------------------------
Hi John,
Small businesses in San Francisco are struggling.
One cause for that struggle - graffiti and vandalism of storefronts. To add insult to injury, if a storefront doesn't clean up the graffiti itself within 30 days, the city will charge the business owner a $362 inspection fee, a $400 labor and supplies fee, and up to $1,000 per day in penalties.
That's right - our city's bureaucracy is punching our small business owners while they're down.
But this week I met a business owner who gave me hope.
Shorty Maniace is a barber operating on Divisadero. To combat the growing blight on the street, he did something inventive. He nailed 700 rubber ducks to a plywood-covered wall next to his shop.
Shorty has truly turned lemons into lemonade. The wall now brings residents joy and inspiration.
And while the laws penalizing small businesses for graffiti still need to be reformed, small business owners like Shorty give me hope for how ingenuity, resilience, and community can really transform our neighborhoods for the better.

2 Weeks To Election Day
Election Day is March 5 - just under 2 weeks away!
This election holds one of the most important races on the ballot - electing your next representatives to the Democratic County Central Committee (DCCC).
Myself and 13 other members of the Democrats for Change slate are running to be your representatives on the east side of the city.
You should have already got a mail-in-ballot (like the image above!) to your address if you are a registered Democrat.
To check if you are a registered Democrat, you can look up your voter registration status here ([link removed]) . And if you aren't registered to vote, you can register online here ([link removed]) (the last day to change your registration online is today!)
Once you get your ballot make sure to turn it in or by election day! And afterwards, come help us get out the vote election weekend - RSVP here ([link removed]) for our next volunteer mobilization on March March 2.
Volunteer ([link removed])
Sincerely.
Bilal Mahmood
