Childbirth can be a death sentence for mothers and newborns in Gaza.

Pregnant women in Gaza are being forced to give birth in extremely dire circumstances.

WSJ: Women in Gaza Give Birth in Tents and Public Bathrooms

DELIVER LIFESAVING CARE

With only 16 out of Gaza’s 36 hospitals functional right now, pregnant women in Gaza are at high risk. Closed maternity units force pregnant women to travel dangerous distances just to find maternal health care — leading to a spike in miscarriages.

Those who do give birth are often rushed out of overcrowded hospitals to make space for other pregnant women. One hospital shut down after women who had just undergone C-section surgeries were evacuated in the middle of the night.

Without humanitarian support, childbirth can be a death sentence for mothers and newborns in Gaza.

But thanks to generous donations from people like you, we’ve delivered resources to support more than half the 21,000 births that have taken place since October 2023.

Gifts from private donors have helped deliver:

  • 320 Reproductive Health Kits
  • 11,900 Hygiene Kits
  • 600 Mama Kits for women who gave birth
  • 7,000 Dignity Kits
  • Direct aid for 2,125 women at risk of violence
  • 50 community midwives, equipped with midwifery kits

More support is urgently needed as tens of thousands more pregnant women prepare to give birth in the coming months in this crisis zone. Will you make a gift to deliver lifesaving care to pregnant women in Gaza and wherever help is most needed?

DELIVER LIFESAVING CARE

UNFPA deeply regrets the end of the humanitarian pause in Gaza. We condemn the violence in Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank, including all sexual violence against women, and echo the UN Secretary-General’s call for a sustained humanitarian ceasefire and for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages by Hamas.

Thank you for being there.
