Delivering Accountability for the Border Crisis
Criminal cartels are making millions of dollars every day by seizing an unprecedented level of control at the Southwest border. They are funneling drugs throughout the country, growing their sex trafficking operations, and pumping record amounts of fentanyl onto our streets killing our youth, neighbors, and relatives in shocking numbers.
This past week, with my support, the House of Representatives passed H. Res. 863, legislation impeaching Alejandro Mayorkas, Secretary of Homeland Security, for high crimes and misdemeanors due to purposely violating immigration and border security laws enacted by Congress and threatening the safety of the American people.
Following an in-depth investigation into the causes, costs, and consequences of the border crisis, the House Committee on Homeland Security found that Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is the primary government official most directly responsible for the crisis unfolding at our border due to his willful disregard of the immigration laws on the books. I was pleased to join my colleagues in taking this important step to hold Secretary Mayorkas accountable.
Last week, I also expressed support for a bill passed by the Texas legislature and signed into law by Texas Governor Greg Abbott which makes illegal entry into Texas from a foreign nation a state crime. Not only has President Biden failed to enforce our laws and secure our border, but he has also threatened to block Texas’ efforts to protect their citizens from the cartel-facilitated border invasion. Every community has become a border community, and I'm proud to join my colleagues from Texas to affirm their state's constitutional right to self-defense in their effort to protect not only their citizens, but all of America.
