John Oliver offers Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas $1 million a year to resign
The Daily Show alumnus and host of Last Week Tonight came up with a novel idea to get the wildly corrupt right-wing extremist off the Supreme Court — just pay him to retire! After all, if he's willing to swing court cases for a trip to Indonesia and a $267,000 RV loan, surely a million dollars a year would be more than enough to tide him over. “Lot on your plate right now. From stripping away women’s rights to hearing Jan. 6 cases, you definitely shouldn’t be hearing two [more cases] potentially helping rollback decades of federal regulations!" said Oliver during his show. “So that’s the offer. $1 million a year, Clarence. And a brand new condo on wheels. And all you have to do to return is sign the contract and get the f*ck off the Supreme Court!" The question now facing Clarence Thomas is, what does he love more? Money, or making the American people's lives worse?

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Bombshell court ruling signals disaster for Trump in November
The $355 million judgment against Trump and his company will only worsen a polling trend that shows that — shocker! — it turns out people don't really want to vote for a criminal...and that's really bad news for Trump, since there are MORE trials and judgments still waiting to unfold. What goes around might finally be coming back around, and just in time. Our democracy as we know it is at stake.

Speaker Johnson faces critical decision on Ukraine aid as international pressure grows to act
Mike Johnson is attempting to walk an impossible tightrope, torn between the pressure of the GOP political establishment to continue funding the Ukraine war and a certain mutiny from the radical far-right if he gives in and brings the Senate's bipartisan weapons funding bill up for a vote. Making matters worse for him is the recent Ukrainian defeat in the battle for the key strongpoint of Avdiivka and a new Russian advance, along with the growing acceptance that the GOP's inability to control its right flank played no small role in these setbacks on the battlefield. But it's safe to assume that unless he wants to join Kevin McCarthy in the ignominious ranks of failed speakers, the only thing he can do is nothing at all — which is exactly what the Republican Party has to offer the American people at large.

Trump uses brief comment on Navalny's death to claim his own political persecution
Trump finally addressed the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny in prison and predictably made it all about himself. He had the nerve to compare the political persecution of Nalvany to his own legal troubles, which, need we remind you, stem from inciting an insurrection against the government, trying to steal the election, smearing his rape victims, and about four decades worth of just absurd amounts of financial fraud. One of those things is not like the other!

Wisconsin governor signs new state legislative maps into law, ending a GOP gerrymander
In a huge win for democracy, Tony Evers signed into law new, fair voting maps with an equal split of Republican and Democrat-leaning districts. The previous Republican-drawn maps were so outrageously gerrymandered that the districts became infamous for their bizarre "swiss cheese" shapes. Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos summed it up nicely when he said "Pains me to say it, but Gov. Evers gets a huge win today.” It can't be understated how important this is in a highly contested battleground state that Trump and Biden both won by less than 1% of the vote. "The end of Wisconsin’s gerrymandering era will unleash a new wave of energy from candidates, volunteers, and voters that could affect not just the state legislature, but the U.S. House, the Senate, and the presidential race!" cheered Ben Wikler, chair of the Wisconsin Democratic Party. On to November!

UN experts appalled by reported human rights violations against Palestinian women and girls by Israeli forces
The United Nations issued a report detailing the credible allegations of horrifying human rights violations against Palestinian women and girls by the IDF, especially against those in detention. “We are shocked by reports of the deliberate targeting and extrajudicial killing of Palestinian women and children in places where they sought refuge, or while fleeing. Some of them were reportedly holding white pieces of cloth when they were killed by the Israeli army or affiliated forces...We are particularly distressed by reports that Palestinian women and girls in detention have also been subjected to multiple forms of sexual assault, such as being stripped naked and searched by male Israeli army officers. At least two female Palestinian detainees were reportedly raped while others were reportedly threatened with rape and sexual violence,” writes members of the Special Procedures of the Human Rights Council, the body of independent experts that operate the HRC's independent fact-finding and monitoring mechanisms.

GOP millionaire to swoop in on crucial battleground Senate race
Tammy Baldwin for Senate: Republican leadership confirms that California bank owner, Eric Hovde, is planning a run for Senator Tammy Baldwin’s must-win seat. This man is a megamillionaire capable of pouring at least $20 million dollars from his own fortune into the race — and you know that McConnell’s dark-money network is set to pour millions more in to replace Senator Baldwin with a right-wing extremist ready to do Trump’s bidding. Will you chip in to help re-elect Senator Baldwin and protect our Senate majority?
Forced labor continues in Colorado, years after vote to end prison slavery
Coloradans voted in 2018 to amend their state constitution to ban forced labor in prison, but six years later, at least 727 prisoners have been punished for refusing to do slave labor — sometimes with punishments as harsh as solitary confinement, which is considered by the United Nations to be torture. Today, incarcerated workers produce more than $2 billion each year in goods and commodities, and over $9 billion in services for the maintenance of the very prisons that confine them—all while being paid pennies an hour or nothing at all. Slavery never ended in America; it just took on a different form.
US proposes UN Security Council oppose Rafah assault, back temporary Gaza ceasefire
The United States indicated it would veto an Algerian resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire on the grounds that it would "jepordize negotiations" but followed up with a draft resolution of its own that would ask for a "temporary ceasefire as soon as practicable." The measure would also declare opposition to Israel's planned assault into the city of Rafah, where over a million civilians have fled from the punishing advance of indiscriminate IDF bombardment. While the resolution has little teeth to it, it is a stark warning to the Netanyahu government that Washington's patience is running thin.
Fox News panel rages out over new presidential scholar poll that ranked Trump as the worst president ever
Abraham Lincoln topped the list at #1, President Obama came in at #7 and President Biden came in at #14...which infuriated the Fox hosts, who melted down over Trump being ranked dead last as the worst president ever. Womp womp!
