Actions for the week of February 19, 2024
Greetings, Activists!
As citizens of the planet we call home, we have a stake — and a say — in the infrastructure and stewardship projects that serve our communities. By continuing to amplify ambitious climate goals and holding electeds to them, we can steer collectively towards a climate-safe future. Learning more about these campaigns and adding your voice is a great next step in supporting a green New York and a healthier planet.
Action 1
📚🌳🎒 Mayor Adams: Invest in Green and Healthy Schools Now
New York City’s school buildings alone account for nearly 20% of the city’s public buildings emissions.
NYC already has access to BILLIONS of dollars through IRA and city funding for electrifying and upgrading school buildings, but city agencies and politicians are letting the money sit there while our schools flood and fill with smoke.
We’re calling on Mayor Adams, Governor Hochul, and the NYC DOE to invest in our students, teachers, and staff by funding green, healthy, safe, and comfortable schools to learn and grow up in — regardless of ZIP code. Sign the petition to demand support for greener city schools.
Action 2
🛢️🗽🚫 Stop Fossil Fuel Expansion in NYS: Say No to “Project Maple”!
Fossil fuel company Enbridge wants to expand its fracked gas infrastructure along the AIM pipeline that runs through New York.
This plan would include building out compressor stations and other dirty energy infrastructure — wreaking havoc on our air and climate, and directly contradicting the clean energy goals mandated by New York’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act.
Urge Governor Hochul and State legislators to oppose the Maple Fracked Gas Expansion.
Action 3
🌍🏦✋ Join Global Allies to Learn and Resist EACOP
EACOP, the East African Crude Oil Pipeline is the largest pipeline project in the world, stretching from Uganda to the coast of Tanzania. If built, it would displace more than 200,000 people, poison water sources for 40 million, and endanger wildlife.
350Brooklyn is co-sponsoring an in-person teach-in that will explain the financing of the pipeline and the worldwide campaign. It’s a great opportunity to work with Ugandan, South Asian, and Chinese activists who support the campaign, and build support for the NYC Day of Action on February 27! Sign up to get involved in this important effort.
