Friend, the California Primary Election on Tuesday, March 5 is fast approaching. We have a crucial opportunity to ensure we have climate champions on the ballot in November to allow us to shift the balance of power in the California Legislature from corporate-aligned politicians to a true environmental majority.

We’ve identified eight State Senate and Assembly candidates in priority races who are committed to championing bold policies to protect our environment and democracy, and fight for climate justice. Our goal of achieving a climate majority in Sacramento — which in turn has world-wide implications — starts with this primary election.

By contributing through Give Green California, your contribution not only directly supports a climate champion candidate but also sends a message that candidates don’t need money from oil and gas to get elected, because the power of the environmental and climate justice movements are firmly behind them.

Jessica Caloza - Assembly (D-52): While working in Attorney General’s Office, Caloza cracked down on big oil companies, and worked to get air quality monitors installed in communities. As City Commissioner, she oversaw infrastructure projects, including solar installations, water conservation, and recycling.

Michelle Chambers - Senate (D-35): Chambers, a former Compton City Councilmember who has fought to eliminate environmental justice in her community, has over 30 years of public service experience. This is a great opportunity to pick up a climate-champion seat in Los Angeles.

Sade Elhawary - Assembly (D-57): Elhawary, who served as Youth Engagement Campaign Manager on Karen Bass’ L.A. mayoral campaign, has spent over a decade developing the next generation of the social justice movement at Community Coalition.

Jackie Elward - Senate (D-3): Elward was the first Black woman elected as Rohnert Park Mayor and City Councilmember. She is focused on affordable housing and making public investments in transportation, sustainable agriculture, and clean energy.

Jerry McNerney - Senate (D-5): In the 16 years he served in U.S. Congress, McNerney helped provide communities with multimillion-dollar investments in clean energy, water sustainability, and broadband access. He also worked to develop wind energy technology to reduce carbon emissions and create good-paying local jobs

Sasha Renée Pérez - Senate (D-25): Pérez is an Alhambra City Councilmember, a lifelong Democrat, an educator, and an equal rights advocate. In 2022, she was honored as a 2022 Congressional Woman of the Year for spearheading the creation of Alhambra’s sustainability plan.

Rhodesia Ransom - Assembly (D-13): Ransom, who previously served on the Tracy City Council, is committed to fighting to upgrade aging water facilities, promote water conservation, invest in innovative technologies to optimize water usage, and advocate for equitable access to clean drinking water.

Monica Wilson - Assembly (D-15): A four-term Antioch City Councilmember, Wilson has stood up to Big Oil for polluting our communities and will work fiercely to reduce carbon pollution causing climate change. She is committed to ending our reliance on fossil fuels and create good-paying, green jobs in the Assembly.
