Gov. Laura Kelly said the upcoming closure of Eureka’s CareArc Health Clinic could have been prevented by Medicaid expansion.

*

CareArc announced the closure of the clinic, located at 1602 N. Elm St. in Eureka, on Jan. 24. The clinic is set to close on Feb. 29.

*

“The closure of yet another rural healthcare provider shows why we must expand Medicaid immediately,” the governor said in a written statement. “Now, Kansans who relied on the CareArc Health Clinic will have to drive farther or wait longer for basic care. Expanding Medicaid could have helped the clinic recruit and retain the workers it needed to continue serving patients.”

Gov. Kelly has been pushing for Medicaid expansion since she took office in 2019. Last month, she unveiled her “commonsense proposal” for Medicaid expansion Wednesday, which she said would offer healthcare to 150,000 additional Kansans. The Cutting Healthcare Costs for All Kansans Act, was introduced into both chambers of the Kansas legislature.
