Executive Directors Message
Here we are right in the middle of a pandemic. Not only are we witnessing history, unfortunately, we are a part of it . We still have 13 days to go before April 7, the alleged last day of the lockdown. I want every member to be careful out there and don’t take anything for granted. Above all don’t get sloppy with your habits.
I will happily say that Governor Pritzker did make Firearms and Ammunition suppliers and retailers an essential part of society for the purposes of safety and security (Section 1, Article 12n of the Executive Order}. Thank you Governor. The demand for firearms and ammunition is still high. Some people just can’t accept the idea of a possible breakdown in society but it could happen. What if we get through this pandemic and in a few months, or a year, we get hit with another cycle of Covid-19 or some other emergency that drives society to panic. You have to get ready and stay ready. There are those out there who have no trouble robbing you or even killing you and your family for what you have or they think you have. I look at this situation as a warning of things to come. When this is over, if you are one of those people who have purchased a firearm for the first time, take a training class and then another one and another one. There are great classes everywhere that have openings for you! We have several coming up at our range in Bonfield. The schedule is packed so take advantage of what is being offered. Don’t be one of those who think they know but actually don’t know what they don’t know. Learn from experts. For those people who wanted to purchase a firearm but couldn’t because they did not have a FOID Card, apply now and get that out of the way. It is part of being ready. Getting back to the low life scum who live among us and prey on the elderly or disabled. They are now fully operational. There are all kinds of scams out there right now claiming to be charities but are not. These are the same old scams that are just switched up to fit the latest crisis. If you have friends or family that are susceptible, please watch out for them. Be sure you report any incidents to the police and make sure they report it to the postal authorities. Many of these scams fall under the description of mail fraud which is a federal offense. These crimes are harder to plea bargain and more likely to have these criminals do the time. In the old days these people were known as confidence men. A few years In the federal penitentiary might make some of these guys lose their confidence. A confidence man with no confidence is out of business.. Last week I wrote about 42 U.S.C. 5207, the section of the United States Code known as the Deprivation of Rights under the Color of Law. Well the Governor of New Jersey is the first to feel the sting of this section of the U.S. Code. It would be hard to think of a more deserving fellow. On March 21, 2020 he issued an Executive Order listing gun shops as a nonessential business thus closing them. Well now we will see how all that turns out. His attempt to remove the constitutional rights of his constituency will not be as much fun as he thought. There are municipalities who have passed such illegal ordinances but haven’t implemented them. Now we wait. We are all watching the saga of the Coronavirus unfold around us. I think everyone who is fulfilling their obligations as essential businesses and workers are working as hard as possible. I am getting tired of some of these politicians, like Governor Cuomo of New York or Joe Biden who stomp their feet and make demands of others. I, like many of you, are working or have worked in places that actually manufacture things. We all know we need ventilators, respirators, test kits, face masks and other personal protection equipment (PPEs). What these demanding politicians don’t seem to get is that this isn’t like going over to a pop machine, slipping in a couple of bucks into the money slot, and waiting for the bottle to drop in a few seconds. Manufacturing anything takes planning, purchasing equipment, retooling, training workers, acquiring raw or partially finished materials and putting all of that together. After it is made it has to get where it is supposed to go and prepared for use. Some of our manufacturers realize that this is medical equipment. If it isn’t exactly right someone dies and who takes on that liability. The manufacturer knows who that will be. Not the politician. No, if mistakes are made, that same demanding politician will want a pound of flesh and a good deal of money to punish the manufacturer. As I said the only things people like Cuomo and Biden make are demands. For people like Cuomo and Biden no job is too difficult, too expensive or too dangerous as long as they do not have to do it.
