Dear John,

The Senate has turned their backs on hard-working immigrants in favor of corporate America. Nearly 20 million immigrants across the U.S. stand to be excluded from our country’s most extensive emergency response in history—a move that will seriously endanger families across New York and across the U.S.

Millions of immigrants-—undocumented immigrants and mixed status families who work, pay taxes, and contribute to our communities--are on the front lines of this pandemic, picking and cooking our food, cleaning our homes and offices, and taking care of our elderly and children. Excluding these families from cash payments, unemployment insurance, federal Medicaid dollars and even free COVID-19 testing is not not only cold-hearted--it also hurts our ability to fight this crisis head-on as a united front.

While the White House clings to the racism and anti-immigrant extremism that have characterized the past three years and prioritized corporate America over the health and well-being of each and every one of us, New York can take bold steps to protect all New Yorkers now.

New York Must Take Action Now.

We are calling on New York to provide free COVID-19 testing and treatment for all New Yorkers, regardless of status; emergency economic support for all workers—including immigrants impacted by the virus—among others; end immigration enforcement activities and free all detainees from immigration detention centers; guarantee eligibility for immigrant businesses and workers for paid sick leave and cash assistance, for starters. Read more about our New York United Campaign.

Now more than ever, New Yorkers must band together and continue to support each other. This pandemic and its economic fallout won’t stop any time soon. Keep fighting with us to ensure that each and every New Yorker can weather these precarious times. We can only win this fight against the pandemic and for immigrant New York together!

In solidarity,
