We are thrilled to announce our next Congressional endorsements: Jamaal Bowman (NY-16) and Alex Morse (MA-1). Both Bowman and Morse are up against deep-pocketed incumbents and will need our people power to help them win.

Dear John,

Last week, our movement celebrated the stunning victory of Sunrise-endorsed candidate Marie Newman over fossil fuel-backed corporate Democrat Dan Lipinski. To win a Green New Deal, we need to build a deep bench of champions in Congress who are willing to fight alongside us.

That’s why we are thrilled to announce our next Congressional endorsements: Jamaal Bowman (NY-16) and Alex Morse (MA-1). Both Bowman and Morse are up against deep-pocketed incumbents and will need our people power to help them win. Chip in now to join us in having their backs.

Jamaal Bowman has been a committed partner of the Sunrise NYC hub for over a year and has built a phenomenal base of local support. He embodies the “Not me, us” spirit, running a grassroots campaign that upholds the promise of the No Fossil Fuel Money Pledge. Bowman is fighting for people like us — people who want opportunities for green jobs in our communities, who need support for unions, who have medical conditions already strained by the pollution destroying our climate. His dedication to getting people the training and skills needed for jobs of the future through a Green New Deal is nothing less than what we’d expect from a long-time respected school Principal.

We have another strong ally in Alex Morse. As Mayor of Holyoke, Massachusetts, Morse stopped all new fossil fuel infrastructure, replacing the last coal plant in Massachusetts with the largest solar field in the state and putting his town on the path to 100% renewable energy. Western Massachusetts is no stranger to the natural disasters brought on by climate change that threaten their agriculture. Morse’s leadership has set an incredible example in embracing the Green New Deal as the solution that will address these problems at the scale that science and justice demand. The incumbent, Richard Neal, is the only member of the Massachusetts congressional delegation who has not signed on to the Green New Deal, accepts money from fossil fuel PACs and executives and, as chair of the Ways and Means Committee, is widely viewed as responsible for failing to renew the clean energy tax credits at the end of last year.

Donate now to support these amazing Green New Deal champions.

Our movement has the power to deliver victories in these races, and electing champions who are aligned with and accountable to the movement can transform the political landscape and make new things possible. Just look at Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, or Rashida Tlaib: after winning their elections, they joined us in protest on their first day in Congress and helped us launch the Green New Deal into the national spotlight.

This year we’ve already pushed forward the campaigns of Mike Siegel in Texas, and Marie Newman in Illinois. Now it’s time to do the same for Jamaal Bowman in New York and Alex Morse in Massachusetts. Coronavirus is moving our campaigning online and to phone banking, which gives our movement and these young candidates a leg up. But it means new challenges and more resources to get the word out.

Let’s show the establishment our power. Donate now so that these campaigns can have the support they need to adapt to this changing environment and win.

Our local chapters in New York City and Western Massachusetts have led the way with these endorsements and they couldn’t be more excited to elect representatives that actually represent them and their values. Let’s have their backs, while also working to make this country and world better for all of us.

Onwards towards a Green New Deal,

Evan Weber
Political Director
Sunrise Movement
