Jack, there is so much happening in the world right now, that I should be writing to you about something else. But none of our efforts would matter if Daily Kos were to shut down tomorrow.

I'll be frank with you, Jack: I am worried about reaching our February fundraising goal. We still need to raise $153,282 by the end of the month.

For a big chunk of our 22-year history, Daily Kos has relied on three sources of revenue: advertising, list building, and community fundraising. At one point, advertising and list building were our largest sources of revenue to power our work. Unfortunately, both of those revenue streams have sharply declined in the past few years—it's no longer enough to sustain our operations.

Thankfully, the Daily Kos community has strongly responded to our appeals for support. In fact, our largest source of income is grassroots donations. Today, Daily Kos's work is powered by donations of $3, $10, $25, and sometimes even $250 or more.

Daily Kos must reach our monthly goals. Our finances have become so tight that our operating budgets are based on these projections. If we miss our goals, we need to make further budget cuts. At this point, any more cuts will affect the quality of our content and the effectiveness of our actions.

That's why I am asking for your help: Daily Kos is the country's first and only participatory, grassroots-funded, news and activism hub. If we were to shut down, nothing would take our place because no other news or activism organization does the work we do. Support our work with a donation of $5 or whatever amount is meaningful to you.

Thank you for all you do,
