John,I’ve been reflecting this evening on the incredibly high stakes in the 2024 election – especially here in California.
An article came out from the Associated Press recently that underscored this, and there are two telling excerpts that have stuck with me:
“Heavily Democratic California might appear an unlikely national battleground, but a string of competitive U.S. House contests is again poised to play a crucial role in determining control of the chamber [...]”
“Leaders in both parties agree that the outcome in California could be the lever that determines who holds the gavel in 2025, after GOP wins in 2022 helped the party gain control."
These excerpts sum up our challenge here at the California Democratic Party.
Our state is absolutely critical to retaking the House Majority and firing Speaker Mike Johnson, but because our state trends blue at the national level, we are often overlooked by grassroots donors.
I think that’s a mistake. And here are three points why:
(1) It was GOP wins here in 2022 that allowed them to narrowly take control of the U.S. House.
(2) The media, election analysts, and GOP leaders all agree that California is where the House Majority will be decided again in 2024.
(3) But despite that, our fundraising is slowing down ahead of our critical March Primary.
That’s the situation, John. We are investing heavily in our critical tossup seats, but the stakes are too high for us to not leave everything on the field. I want to expand our map to more purple seats and deepen our investments across the board, but I can’t do it without your support.
