Dear John, Right before coronavirus got bad in the U.S., we were outside the Treasury Department in D.C. protesting the detrimental effects U.S. sanctions are having on Iran’s ability to address the pandemic. Since then, we have been petitioning the World Health Organization and U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to speak out and call for the U.S. to #EndCOVIDsanctions on Iran. Last week we appealed to members of Congress to speak out against the sanctions. Thankfully, some brave members of Congress are responding: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Bernie Sanders, Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar, and others have penned a letter to the White House calling for an immediate lifting of sanctions to help ordinary Iranians fight the COVID19 pandemic. Email your Senators and Representative now and tell them to add their name.
There is one more thing that you can do: Call the Treasury Department directly and urge them to suspend Iran sanctions. Click here to be patched through and use this sample call script or call (202) 622-2000: Hi my name is <<your name>>, I’m from <<your city>>. I am gravely concerned about sanctions on Iran in the middle of the global coronavirus pandemic. I am calling on the Treasury Department to immediately lift sanctions on Iran to allow for humanitarian relief and the trade of medical supplies during this time. Every day that passes and sanctions on Iran remain, the number of COVID-19 infections and deaths rise exponentially. The world must come together right now as a global community to address this pandemic. If we allow the Trump administration to continue to cripple Iran’s ability to respond, we prevent the health and safety of the entire world. Contact Congress right now and tell them to join AOC in action! Towards health and safety for all, |
