Williams Weekly
Dear Texans,
It's been another busy week in Washington, D.C. fighting for the issues that matter most to you. I remain committed to delivering lasting solutions for the American people. Read below on my work serving you.
The House Impeached Mayorkas
Secretary Mayorkas has failed to uphold his Constitutional duty to the American people. He has implemented a deadly catch and release scheme, violated detention requirements, and misused parole authority. Mayorkas has abused his power and continually misled Congress and the American people. I was proud to join House Republicans in impeaching Secretary Mayorkas for his deadly failures. Border security is national security, and I will remain resilient in the fight to secure our border, protect communities across the nation from these deadly policies, and hold those who threaten our national security accountable.
Introduced the Operation Lone Star Reimbursement Act
As the border crisis rages on, President Biden has failed to uphold his duty to defend our borders from foreign invasion, leaving border states like Texas to fend for themselves. I am proud to introduce the Operation Lone Star Reimbursement Act to ensure Texans don’t have to continually shell out taxpayer dollars to secure the southern border of the United States. Since Biden refuses to do his job and safeguard the American people, Texas has been forced to step up to protect our homes and communities, and we must be reimbursed. Texas has spent billions to help maintain the safety and security of all citizens across the United States and fight back against deadly human trafficking, sex trafficking, drug and cartel activity, and seemingly endless unlawful entries that are draining Texas’ resources. It’s past time Biden recognizes this crisis for what it is and stands with Texans to secure our nation.
Fighting Biden’s Worsening Border Crisis
This week, U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced 176,205 illegal immigrant encounters at our southern border in January, a new January record. House Republicans passed H.R. 2, the strongest border security bill in history, which Chuck Schumer and extreme Senate Democrats have refused to bring to the floor for a vote. Instead of allowing this crisis to continue to spiral out of control, Joe Biden could end the border crisis today, but he refuses. I will continue to fight every step of the way to protect American communities from this deadly invasion on American soil.
House Committee on Small Business
This week, I led a hearing examining the impact of EPA regulations on Main Street. The EPA continues to stifle innovation by wrapping American industry in red tape. We heard directly from businesses who are forced to play defense because of the EPA’s burdensome regulations. We also learned that while the EPA sometimes takes input from small businesses, their views are consistently overlooked and disregarded when the final regulations are created. As Chairman, I will continue to listen to and work with business owners to implement the best policies possible for Main Street America. Watch my opening statement here.
Financial Services Committee
My greatest concern is the numerous terrorists on international terror watchlists that have taken advantage of our open borders to enter this country, the cartels that have formed partnerships with China to bring fentanyl into this country and exploit our system to launder the money that they gain from these illegal activities. We must use all powers available to us to prevent what is happening at the border and keep my constituents in Texas, and all citizens of the United States safe. This week, the Financial Services Committee held a hearing on oversight of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) and the Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence (TFI). Watch my line of questioning here.
Securing American Energy Leadership
Biden has continually targeted American energy producers, bowing down to woke climate activists and putting American energy independence last. I was proud to cosponsor H.R. 7176, The Unlocking Our Domestic LNG Potential Act Of 2024, to unleash American energy and strengthen national security. This crucial legislation reverses Biden's ban on LNG exports to strengthen the economy, further U.S. leadership in reducing emissions, and increase the energy security of the U.S. and its allies.
Visited the Granbury Chamber
I visited the Granbury Chamber to discuss some of the top issues facing our nation and ways I am working to solve them in Congress. From the border crisis to daily life for the small business owners and families of Main Street, I’m fighting each day to keep our communities safe and thriving.
In God we trust,
Roger Williams
Member of Congress
