Frankly, I'm sick and tired of Republicans weaponizing and lying about immigration and its impact to our country. The GOP won't even back an immigration bill they basically wrote!  Yes, we need comprensive immigration reform but let's ground it in facts about recent immigration and its impact to our country.

1) Falsehood: Immigrants have been bringing more crime to our country.

FACT: Homicides and violent crime are down to pre-pandemic levels (homicides down 10% in big cities and lower than in the 1990s).

FACT: Property crime is the lowest it's been since 1961.  Retail thefts are also down.  

FACT: Native-born Americans, on a per capita basis, are much more likely to commit crimes than immigrants (documented or undocumented).

2) Falsehood: Immigrants have been taking jobs from native-born Americans.

FACT: Overall unemployment has been at or below 4% for 24 straight months (the longest streak in over 50 years).

FACT: Labor-force participation rates remain high for all groups. 

3) Falsehood: Immigrants have been hurting our economy.

FACT: The U.S. economy (GDP growth) is performing far better than every developed country, and immigrants are expected to contribute $7 trillion to the our economy in 2024.

4) Falsehood: Immigrants suppress wages for native-born Americans.

FACT: The purchasing power of Americans is now higher than it was before the pandemic, and wage growth has outpaced inflation since 2019.

So, even with the recent increase in immigrants and asylum seekers coming to our border we know that crime is down, unemployment is down, wages are up and the economy is far better than in other developed countries.
