Dear John,
Imagine receiving a shelter-in-place order while also receiving an eviction notice. Imagine facing this pandemic while in an immigrant detention center or jail, without many health options and very little control over how close others are to you. Imagine learning about the pandemic while in a refugee camp, with limited services and no safe home to return to.
For far too many people, this is the reality during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Will you help support communities and protect human rights and dignity worldwide during this time of coronavirus? Click here: [link removed]
Now, more than ever, it is clear that we are all interconnected and that our health and safety depend on each other. AFSC, with our work in dozens of U.S. communities, 16 countries, and staff at the United Nations and U.S. Capitol, is offering a global, interconnected response.
Your compassionate response will help AFSC respond to the pandemic in many ways. Please give today to help provide much-needed support to neighbors in our communities. Click here: [link removed]
Already, AFSC staff and partners even as they continue to work remotely, have…
=Won a pause on evictions in Atlanta for the duration of the emergency.
=Brought thousands of messages to state governors and the federal government to reduce the number of people in harm’s way in immigrant detention, prisons, and jails.
=Organized mutual aid in several communities, weaving networks where neighbors can support each other.
=Advocated for human rights and humanitarian needs as the borders are closing.
=Called for an end to sanctions on Iran, Gaza, and North Korea, to allow needed medical supplies into isolated areas.
=Joined religious leaders and many faith organizations in advocating for federal bills that support our health infrastructure, to support people who are vulnerable in this economic time.
=Started close monitoring of U.S. and other countries’ pandemic responses and their effects on civil liberties.
We are early in our response to the coronavirus, but we are in it for the long-term to promote the safety and peace of all, particularly for those most vulnerable. Please make a gift today to ensure AFSC has the resources to respond to the pandemic. Click here: [link removed]
The pandemic has magnified the injustices of our world. It also shines a light on what you and I have always known: that we are interconnected, that we are members of a global community, and that our health and well-being is dependent on how we treat each other.
When it is wise to go out and meet in person again, we want to see people able to freely congregate and participate in rebuilding the communities we need. With your help and partnership, we can build that future.
Wishing you and your loved ones health and happiness in these trying times!
In solidarity,
Joyce Ajlouny
General Secretary
