John,

Last year ended with Congress punting on the Farm Bill. And, House Speaker Mike Johnson wasn’t going to do anything about it — no surprise considering “MAGA Mike” has opposed Farm Bill spending since he got into Congress. In the end, this just means 2024 is another year without support for U.S. family farmers.

Make a contribution to put Democrats who will support our farmers in control of Congress this November.

ELECT FRIENDS TO FARMERS
[link removed]

The first Farm Bill, passed 90 years ago, was originally written as a social program to build up U.S. farming and families by aiming to create a fair marketplace that allowed the farmers who feed our nation’s families to make a living.

It is our most important legislation for funding the country’s food system. Federal dollars are used for everything from direct support for family farmers to SNAP food assistance. It’s such big legislation we only try to pass it every five years.

But, it has been hijacked by corporate profits. That’s why it is essential we work to reform it for everyone.

Congress did manage to pass a one-year extension of the 2018 (or last) Farm Bill, setting up another fight after this November’s presidential election. To win that fight, we need to elect a new Congress that will actually fight for people, not corporate profits. Food & Water Action has a plan to help win five battleground congressional districts, but we need your support to make it happen.

ELECT CLIMATE LEADERS
[link removed]

Since the 1990s, corporations have increasingly used the Farm Bill to increase their profit margins, squeezing farmers and hurting consumers. So when we do pass a new farm bill, it needs to be massively more equitable for farmers, promote real environmental protections, and build a better food system.

That’s why Food & Water Action will work on these issues before, during, and after elections. Contribute to make this work happen here.
