John,
In state after state, while Republican politicians are creating new laws to make abortion illegal, conservative judges are also making restrictive rulings to limit women’s reproductive rights.
One target of these judicial attacks is a specific medication that has helped end pregnancies effectively and safely for decades: mifepristone.
In April, 2023, a District Court Judge in Texas unilaterally revoked the FDA’s approval of mifepristone, claiming a lack of evidence of its safety -- even though it has been used safely and effectively for 23 years, since the FDA approved it in the year 2000.
Now, in its first abortion-related case since overturning Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court will be reviewing the mifepristone ban. If the decision goes badly, it could severely impact the availability of abortion care even where it remains legal, especially if its sister drug misoprostol, usually used in combination with mifepristone, is threatened too.
Sign the petition: Protect our access to essential reproductive health care. Protect mifepristone!
Until mifepristone was banned last year, the two drugs were used together in 53% of all U.S. abortions. Mifepristone is also used in managing miscarriages. Despite this widespread use, fewer medical complications are reported for Mifepristone than Tylenol.
It’s not right for a rogue judge to shoot down a medically proven safe and effective medication to be used for reproductive health. The effects of such a judgment will be felt in every state across the country regardless of whether abortion is legal in a given state. This is the time to speak up and make our voices heard!
Keep medical abortions safe with the medication we know is safe and effective: mifepristone!
Thank you for standing up for women’s rights to essential reproductive health care.
