It was a busy week, but I’m back to keep you in the loop on how I am fighting for our conservative values.
This week, I voted for the second time to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for neglecting his responsibilities, refusing to enforce federal immigration law, and subjecting Americans to an unrelenting invasion of illegal immigrants, drugs, and gangs. Congress has special oversight authority to ensure bureaucrats are held accountable for endangering Americans and failing to carry out their basic responsibilities. I applaud my Republican colleagues for remaining unified and taking the lead on the border, where Democrats have failed miserably.
We received a disturbing and shocking report from Special Counsel Robert Hur, who declined to charge President Biden with mishandling classified documents because a jury would not convict a ‘sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.’ It is unsettling that a reputable Special Counsel would deem a culpable man too mentally unfit to convince a jury to convict despite ample evidence the President knowingly retained and disclosed classified materials. If Joe Biden is mentally incapable of standing trial, he is unfit to be President of the United States. The 25th Amendment to the Constitution was written for this very situation, however, our nation won’t be in a better place when you consider the next in line for the position.
It was appalling to see DFL politicians in St. Paul put forth a bill to make Minnesota a sanctuary state (the “North STAR Act”). This proposal would prohibit local law enforcement from cooperating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as well as state government officials from enforcing immigration laws. Across the country and right here in Minnesota, we have seen what becomes of places that limit their cooperation with law enforcement and become 'sanctuary cities'. That’s why I joined the Minnesota Republican Congressional delegation in condemning this errant move that puts illegals first and Minnesotans last.
Many of you shared your concerns and opposition this week regarding the North Star Act. Thank you for reaching out! I am pleased to write that the sanctuary state bill looks unlikely to move forward after two Iron Range legislators publicly came out against it. But make no mistake: now that we know their goal is to make Minnesota a sanctuary state, the DFL will not stop trying to reach it. It’s yet another reason why Minnesota Republicans must be united and work together this year to flip the state house and put a roadblock into the DFL trifecta.
