The government is pressing on with its £205bn plans to replace the UK's nuclear weapons, despite its 50-year old commitment to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) to disarm.
The current public health crisis - which the NHS has been left ill-equiped to deal with after years of underinvestment - highlights starkly just what a twisted decision this is.

The goal of the NPT is simple: complete disarmament of all nuclear weapons. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the NPT coming into force, and only a handful of countries have developed nuclear weapons since.
The UK, in signing the treaty, made a promise to disarm its nuclear weapons. And yet it continues to spend hundreds of £billions on developing new nuclear weapons - weapons which, if ever used, would lead to the deaths of millions of innocent men, women and children.
The money the UK has spent on nuclear weapons is money that it could have been spending on healthcare instead, meaning our NHS might now find itself better placed to face threats such as the Coronavirus pandemic.
So CND is demanding that the government takes concrete steps towards living up to its commitments under the NPT by disarming its nuclear arsenal. Please help by making a donation if you can.
