In a landmark move, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced stricter air pollution rules for the first time in over a decade.
The new air quality standards will focus on the reduction of “particulate matter” pollution. These microscopic particles (commonly referred to as “soot”) are about 30 times smaller than a human hair, but they are among the deadlies pollutants, penetrating deep into our lungs and bloodstream and causing severe health issues.
This could not have come at a more critical time. In fact, recent studies have found a direct link between air pollution and terrible diseases such as Parkinson’s and Type 2 Diabetes.
SEEC members in Congress are at the forefront of this battle, working tirelessly every day to enact policies that ensure cleaner air and a healthier future for our communities.
