This week, two men who stormed the Capitol on January 6th, 2021 were found guilty of several criminal charges in federal court — adding to the growing list of convictions to come out of the insurrection.
Both men broke into the Senate chamber itself where, just moments before, senators — including our part-time Senator Ted Cruz — had been debating last-minute GOP objections to counting the Electoral College vote.
As the insurrectionists were rifling through senator’s desks, someone mentioned Ted’s name and one of the men could be clearly heard saying:
As we now know, John — they were right. Ted’s willingness to so brazenly subvert democracy will be his lasting legacy — and is the chief reason why we need to cut him from the Senate for good this November. Can you chip in $5 to help us propel Ted into retirement?
With another high-stakes election on the horizon, the GOP has made its hostility to democracy increasingly visible. And if they get their way, extremists like Ted will continue their assault on our democracy and institutions in order to force their far-right agenda on the rest of us.
Ted Cruz is a sellout, John, and his willingness to play a leading role in seeking to overturn the 2020 election is reprehensible. It should disqualify him from ever holding office again.
We know the road ahead to cutting Cruz will be challenging but we know it can be done. That’s why we’re continuing to expand our statewide grassroots movement to show Ted and his GOP cronies that their time is up.
If we’re going to defend our democracy from the likes of Donald Trump and others, we must start by replacing those who enable such demagogues — and Ted Cruz is Trump’s biggest cheerleader in the Senate.
