Investing in High-Quality, Affordable Child Care

I hope you had a great week and you’re able to enjoy the long weekend with friends and family! It was a busy week here in Washington — I was proud to introduce bipartisan legislation to address the child care crisis here in New Hampshire and all across our country.

Access to high-quality, affordable child care is critical to New Hampshire’s economic success.

The child care workforce is projected to lose another 232,000 jobs without congressional action. We need to change that. Hardworking parents need access to affordable, high-quality child care to return to the workforce and fully participate in our economy.

My bill takes critical steps to recruit more child care providers and supports the industry by establishing more child care services in our communities, investing in career and technical education (CTE) programs, and incentivizing more students to enter the early childhood workforce upon graduation.

Fighting for Bipartisan Immigration and Border Security Reform

Republicans and Democrats need to work together to restore Americans’ confidence in our immigration process.

This week, I was proud to unveil the New Democrat Coalition’s framework for commonsense immigration and border security reform. This framework lays out a path that will restore order at the border, bolster our economy and workforce, improve pathways to legal status, and help improve our broken asylum system.

The United States is a nation of laws and immigrants. And we owe it to our country and to future citizens to build a system that reflects our values, that enforces the laws on the books that treats immigrants with the dignity that they deserve, and that ensures order and security at our borders.

The American people are looking for pragmatic leaders to fix our country’s biggest problems, not politicians who just want to talk about the problem. I’ll continue calling on my Republican colleagues to put partisanship aside and negotiate meaningful, bipartisan solutions for the good of our country.

Improving Access to Addiction and Overdose Training

Thank you to the physicians and experts who joined our Task Force’s roundtable to raise awareness about the gaps in addiction training in medical schools.

Also this week, my Bipartisan Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Task Force held a roundtable discussion with addiction education experts to raise awareness about the gaps in addiction training in medical schools.

Every life lost to addiction and overdose is a tragedy — we can and must do more to help save lives. That starts with ensuring medical students and doctors are trained to treat patients experiencing substance use disorder. Medication-assisted treatment is a critical tool in the fight against the substance use disorder epidemic, but it’s useless if doctors aren’t trained to prescribe it.

I’ll keep fighting to ensure health care providers are equipped with the training they need to give folks fighting substance use disorder the best treatment possible.

Supporting Granite State Patients and Caregivers

I’ll always fight to improve New Hampshire’s health care system.

This week in the Energy and Commerce Committee, I urged my colleagues to support critical funding to ensure patients and caregivers in New Hampshire and across the country have access to the resources and support they need to thrive.

From investing in breakthrough screening and diagnostic technologies to fight diseases like Alzheimer’s, to providing first responders with the tools to address the addiction and overdose crisis, I’ll continue advocating for Granite State patients and health care providers.

Improving Competition to Lower Energy Costs

Competitive markets play a critical role in driving innovation and lowering costs.

America’s economy runs on competition — it drives innovation, helps deliver quality services, and ultimately lowers costs for consumers. Competitive markets have enabled electricity consumers to enjoy the benefits of competition: low prices, more reliability, and efficient investment.

This week in the Energy and Commerce Committee, I spoke about the fundamental role competition plays in improving the reliability of our energy grid and lowering costs for electricity customers.
