Learn more about what my office has been up to this week Dear john, This week, as many Americans celebrated Valentine's Day, families in Parkland, Florida marked the painful anniversary of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. I still remember watching students stream out of the school with their hands up. I also remember being deeply inspired by those young people's bold calls for action in the wake of this unthinkable tragedy. This past Friday was also the birthday of my son Jordan. Not a day goes by that I don't miss him and think of the man he was growing up to be. His legacy--and the legacy of every American whose life was cut short by gun violence--is why I continue my work in Congress. This week, I uplifted important local history in honor of Black History Month. On Tuesday night, it was my pleasure to participate in the Congressional Black Caucus' Special Order Hour celebrating the evolution of Black excellence throughout history. In particular, I was honored to speak about the history of our community and some of its distinguished leaders. To listen to my remarks, you can click here or on the image below.
