Lieutenant Governor Flanagan Recognizes Career and Technical Education Month by Encouraging Minnesotans to Apply for New Free College Tuition Program

On Wednesday, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan visited Minneapolis Community and Technical College during Career and Technical Education Month to encourage Minnesotans to apply for the new state scholarship program [ [link removed] ] that creates tuition and fee-free pathways to higher education.

Serving as a “last-dollar” program, the scholarship will cover the balance of tuition and fees remaining after other scholarships, grants, stipends and tuition waivers have been applied. The program is estimated to impact 15,000-20,000 students in the first academic year. All Minnesota public higher education institutions and Tribal colleges will be eligible.

Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan continue to encourage Minnesotans to file for the new Child Tax Credit. The tax credit of up to $1,750 per child is estimated to cut child poverty by up to one third in Minnesota. Nearly 300,000 households including 513,000 children are estimated to qualify for the credit.

Most taxpayers who are eligible to claim the new Child Tax Credit are also eligible for free tax preparation assistance. Learn more about income requirements and qualifications on the Child Tax Credit webpage [ [link removed] ].

On Friday, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan celebrated Black Entrepreneurs Day at the Capitol. 

*"I was honored to join Sheletta Brundidge for Black Entrepreneurs Day at the Capitol,"* said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan. *"Black business owners have been left out of conversations at the Capitol for too long. In Minnesota, we're ensuring that Black-owned businesses have the resources and support they need to thrive."*

In Case You Missed It: Governor Walz Announces Over $7.8 Million for Business Expansion Statewide

Last week, Governor Walz announced more than $7.8 million in funding for seven business expansion projects statewide. The projects are expected to support 719 jobs and leverage more than $169 million in outside investment.
