Reauthorize the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000
Our office remains strong in our commitment to combating human trafficking. This week, we voted alongside 413 other representatives in favor of H.R. 5856 – the Frederick Douglass Trafficking Victims Prevention and Protection Reauthorization Act. This bipartisan victory marks a significant stride in reinforcing the critical support of the Trafficking and Violence Protection Act, ensuring America's continued vigilance against this despicable crime. With this reauthorization, we secure funding for programs supporting trafficking victims.
Pushing Back on the CCP
We voted ‘Yes’ on the bipartisan Uyghur Policy Act of 2023 (H.R.2766), because it aligns with our commitment to supporting human rights across the globe. The Chinese Communist Party is oppressing and committing genocide against Uyghurs and other minority groups in China. Our vote in favor of the bill authorizes the creation of a Special Coordinator for Uyghur Issues within the Department of State and allocates funds to support organizations that are helping these communities.
Unleashing American Energy
The Biden administration has hampered oil and natural gas industries by shutting down pipelines, limiting production, and even limiting our domestic export. We voted ‘Yes’ on H.R. 7176 – Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act. This bill puts American energy first. This crucial legislation prioritizes American energy, fostering growth and innovation within our domestic natural gas sector. It's time to unleash the full potential of our energy resources and position America as a global energy leader. This bill passed with a 224 - 200 vote.
Tibet-China Dispute Resolution
We voted ‘Yes’ on H.R.553, Promoting a Resolution to the Tibet-China Dispute Act, a bill to strengthen US efforts to push the Chinese government to resolve the longstanding Tibet-China dispute through dialogue with Tibetan leaders.The Chinese Communist Party seeks to extend its repressive reach in Tibet and abroad. They are targeting for surveillance and harassment of Tibetan diaspora communities in the United States, in India and in Nepal. This bill is a vote for democracy, plain and simple.This bill passed 392 - 28.
Strengthening the Quad
We voted ‘Yes’ on H.R.5375, Strengthening the Quad Act, a bill to upgrade the Quadrilateral Dialogue (Quad) and establish a Quad Interparliamentary Working Group with Japan, Australia, and India. "It is imperative for democracies in the Indo-Pacific to collaborate in upholding regional rules and delivering tangible benefits for the people of the region. This bill advocates for a comprehensive strategy to advance Quad cooperation and promotes enhanced dialogue between the legislatures of the four Quad countries. The U.S. Congress is committed to fostering a free, open, and resilient Indo-Pacific by championing a positive and practical Quad agenda. This bill passed 379 - 39.
