March Primaries

When we talk about March Madness, we don’t mean sports – we mean the upcoming primaries! On March 5th, 49 LGBTQ+ candidates will be on the ballot in Arkansas, California, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. 31 Victory Fund endorsed candidates will be on the ballot in California alone!

Here’s what some of those candidates are up to…

Texas Update – Inching Closer to Primary Day

When Victory Fund President & CEO Mayor Annise Parker first ran for office, there was only one other out LGBTQ+ elected official serving. Now, LGBTQ+ candidates are running across the state! Meet some of the candidates running in Harris County – including Julie Johnson, running for the U.S. Congress, and Lauren Ashley Simmons, running for the state house!

LGBTQ+ History in the Making in North Carolina

At the top of the ballot, Satana Deberry is working overtime to become the first woman, first person of color and first LGBTQ+ person elected North Carolina Attorney General. The Advocate recently named her one of the six Black LGBTQ+ women changing the face of politics – read the article here! In the state Senate, incumbent candidate Lisa Grafstein – the only out LGBTQ+ person serving in the body – is facing a tough reelection after her district was targeted by redistricting. Hear about her campaign here!
