Dear John:

House Republicans are following through on our commitment to hold the federal government accountable. After a nearly year-long investigation, the Committee on Homeland Security found that Department of Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas is "chiefly responsible for the chaos and devastation that has unfolded over the past three years" at this nation's borders. He has refused to enforce federal immigration law, risking our national security, and the American people are feeling pain of his failures every day. He has lost their trust and the trust of the Members of the House of Representatives.

This week, the House of Representatives voted to impeach Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for willfully and systemically refusing to comply with federal immigration laws and breach of the public trust.

I am proud to join my colleagues in passing this impeachment vote, and I will continue working to secure out borders, protect our national security, and hold this government accountable. I urge the Senate to move swiftly in their deliberation.

Report: Biden's memory has "significant limitations"

Department of Justice Special Counsel Robert Hur released a report last week confirming that Joe Biden "willfully retained and disclosed classified materials." Yet, he did not recommend pressing felony charges because Biden's memory had such "significant limitations" that the Special Counsel would not be able to convince a jury that Biden held a "mental state of willfulness" that a serious felony requires. In short, the Special Counsel does not believe he is mentally fit enough to stand trial.

I cannot believe someone fitting that description is able to lead this country as Commander in Chief. I have joined my colleagues in sending a letter to the White House expressing our grave concerns with the findings of this report, and demanding the President immediately submit a clinically validated cognitive screening assessment and make the results available to the public.

When I toured the Traverse County Care Center, I was glad to meet with residents and staff and discuss some of the issues concerning them. We had a detailed discussion about their concerns with the White House's proposed nursing staff ratios, which would make it even more difficult, even impossible, for skilled nursing facilities like theirs to operate. I introduced the Protecting Rural Seniors' Access to Care Act to prevent this rule from being implemented until the administration can prove it won't harm the operation of these vital facilities.

When the Minnesota Association of Counties came to D.C., we talked about issues impacting people across the state ranging from workforce and immigration to healthcare concerns for senior citizens.

While touring the DJ Products facility, Joe, James and I talked about the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act. In particular, the bill reinstates immediate expensing for domestic research and development, allowing businesses like theirs to claim a tax deduction on those expenses.
