Dear Friends,
I was joined by labor leaders and union members from across the country this week at the U.S. Capitol to oppose dangerous legislation House Republicans recently advanced out of the Budget Committee.
Their bill would create a commission with the power to fast-track cuts behind closed doors to Medicare, Social Security, and even veterans’ benefits and federal worker pay. More than 100 organizations have come out against this proposal because of the threat it poses to hard-working Americans’ earned benefits. You can view our press conference below.
Congress has a responsibility to stand up for working families by protecting and strengthening the benefits they rely on, not cutting them behind closed doors. Democrats have put forward proposals to improve these programs, like my Social Security 2100 Act, that would extend Social Security’s solvency for another generation while expanding benefits the American people rely on – benefits that haven’t been enhanced in more than 50 years. Now is the time to act.
