Catching Up With Quigley: Week in Review

Dear John,

I hope you've had a good week. I wanted to share some of the work I did this week while in Washington.

1. Recognized Black History Month

As you know, February is Black History Month. This is a critical opportunity to recognize the many powerful voices and stories of Black Americans throughout our nation’s history. As a member of Congress, I will continue to work with my colleagues in supporting legislation that identifies and eliminates injustice in our government and society while celebrating the important contributions made by Black Americans.

2. Led the Call for Additional Aid to Ukraine

As Co-Chair of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus, I have been a steadfast voice in the fight for democracy in Ukraine. On Thursday, my colleagues gathered to show our solidarity with Ukraine. We highlighted the introduction of a resolution commemorating the two year anniversary of Russia's brutal invasion. This was the second piece of legislation I was proud to introduce this week. I joined Representative Bill Keating (MA-09) and Representative Jim McGovern (MA-02) in introducing the Ukraine War Risk Insurance Act of 2024. Putin's unprovoked war has upended every aspect of life for Ukrainians – including their economy. Amidst a constant state of fear and unease, Russia has deliberately targeted Ukraine's thriving grain industry, limiting the country’s ability to export and threatening the food security of millions. The Ukraine War Risk Insurance Act would not only help increase Ukrainian exports, but it would also ensure the Ukrainian agriculture sector can effectively deliver its products to the global market.

3. Joined CNN to Discuss the Senate Foreign Aid Package

On Wednesday, I joined CNN to give my insight into the passing of the Senate's foreign aid package. The package includes aid to Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan and critical humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza, the West Bank and Ukraine. I shared my thoughts on refusal from conservatives to bring the bill to the House floor, as well as the historical implications should we fail to aid Ukraine.
