Legislative Update
The 2024 legislative session began this week, and House Democrats are already stalling action on the school resource officer fix. Despite all their talk about a quick process that involves stakeholders, Democrats have instead begun to drag their feet and exclude the suggestions of law enforcement while crafting their bill. The bill was heard in Public Safety on Tuesday, but was laid over instead of bringing it up for a vote. House Republicans have brought up a motion to bring a solution to the House floor, but the DFL voted in lock-step to oppose it.
Last session, Democrats spent our entire $17.5 billion surplus and raised taxes by another $10 billion, growing government by 40% while Minnesota families are seeing their budgets shrink because of increased cost of living and inflation. Because of the massive increase in spending, the Walz Administration reported in the last fiscal forecast that the state now has a looming structural deficit in the next few years if we do nothing to rein in spending.
