Please join us on Wednesday, February 21 at 3pm ET for a conversation with Dr. Juliet Hooker, Royce Family Professor of Teaching Excellence in Political Science at Brown University and author of the new book, Black Grief/White Grievance: The Politics of Loss [[link removed]] . Alliance for Justice President Rakim H.D. Brooks will join Dr. Hooker for a conversation on how Black grief and white grievance have shaped our nation and what it means for our future.
In her new book, Dr. Hooker examines how Black grief and white grievance impacts racial politics in the United States. Black grief and white grievance are not new concepts in our society, and Dr. Hooker explains how current events, like the Black Lives Matter protests, continue a historical pattern of Black citizens making heroic sacrifices to expand US democracy. She also dives into how white supremacy has fostered expectations of political rule in white citizens that make it difficult for them to accept legitimate political loss.
