This week, the world watched in horror as Israel executed a series of airstrikes in Rafah, a city on the southern edge of the Gaza Strip where 1.4 million Palestinians have fled to escape ongoing fighting in the region.

President Biden has warned Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu [[link removed], Gaza Strip (AP),-month Israel-Hamas war.] not to conduct military operations against Hamas in Rafah without a “credible and executable” plan to protect civilians. He is working to negotiate a six-week ceasefire [[link removed]] to allow for hostage negotiations. But this is not enough. We need a permanent ceasefire, for Hamas to release all hostages, and start negotiations for an independent Palestinian state with equal rights living side by side with a secure Israel.
