Hi friend,
My name is Rachel Gonzalez. I'm the Organizing Manager at Brady, a Chiefs fan, and a proud Kansas Citian.
This week, I was so excited to celebrate Kansas City and our repeat Super Bowl Champion team, but what should have been a joyous gathering turned into a chaos when two gunmen opened fire on the crowd and the chance at happy memories of the day were dashed as grief replaced the joy.
One person was killed and 22 people were injured, nine of whom were children. Instead of memories of seeing their favorite players close up, kids will grapple with the physical and mental trauma of being shot.

I work in gun violence prevention so I know the terrible fact that no community is truly safe from the threat of gun violence, but that didn’t make it any easier to see my beloved Kansas City in the news as the latest community changed by gun violence.
|
Unfortunately, my community is not unique, the sad reality is that gun violence is just as American as football. That’s why I work every day to try and stop the next community from being irrevocably changed by gun violence, to finally free America from gun violence and create the country all of us deserve.
|
Because it doesn’t have to be this way, friend. We know the solutions that can save lives from gun violence – laws like an assault weapons ban and expanded and strengthened Brady Background Checks – but in order to overcome years of obstruction in Congress, we need to raise our voices together and be louder than the gun lobby. In the wake of the tragic shooting in Kansas City, I’m asking you, friend, to speak out while lawmakers are paying attention: Will you add your name to Brady’s urgent petition right now and call on Congress to take action against gun violence?

As I grieve with my community, I remain determined in this fight to save lives and stop another community from experiencing the same tragedy. I know that if we keep fighting together, we can change our country for the better.
Thank you for taking action, friend.
