Hi there,

We’ll begin this email with a powerful excerpt from a recent story in NPR:

The path to Tennessee politics for Allie Phillips began last year in her doctor's office. She was 19 weeks pregnant when she got the devastating news about her unborn daughter: only two of the four chambers in her heart were formed.

Following the diagnosis, Doctors warned that continuing the pregnancy would endanger Allie’s life. But, as you may know by now, the Tennessee state legislature, which is 85% male, passed a near-total ban on abortion in 2022. She left the state, devastated and heartbroken, to obtain the life-saving care she needed – but her story is far from over.

After her traumatic experience, Allie met with her legislator, Rep. Jeff Burkhart, to share her story and persuade him to sponsor a measure she named after the baby she lost but desperately wanted, “Miley’s Law,” which would add an exception for fetal anomalies to the state abortion ban. However, it was clear that Buckhart was not only disinterested in Allie’s story but was completely uninformed, stating that “he thought miscarriages could only happen with first pregnancies” and “if his own daughter had been in Phillips’s position, he’d have wanted her to continue the pregnancy.”

After the meeting, Phillips wrote to Buckhart and said, “Every chance I get to tell my story, I will… Who knows, maybe one day I’ll run against you.”

He never responded. Allie later told The Washington Post that was when she decided she wasn’t going to rely on a man. She’d have to take matters into her own hands.

Allie’s district is one that Democrats have identified as flippable. This is our chance to replace her pro-life extremist opponent, and we are honored to be standing with her in this fight. Help us fund our support programs for Allie’s campaign by donating $20.24 or more today →

As Allie told NPR:

Working and campaigning and parenting, it's a lot. But Phillips says it's for the sake of her daughter's reproductive rights that she's doing it. “It's my job as a mother to take care of my daughter and keep her safe."

For Allie’s daughter and all of our daughters,
