We’re seeing a lot of scary news come out of the states, and I’m following up on Sara’s email yesterday to tell you a little more about our strategy.
We support leaders who take a whole-of-government approach, who will use every power afforded to their office to support reproductive freedom and abortion rights. That also includes championing democracy and voting rights. Because in Ohio, for instance, voters made clear last fall that they overwhelmingly support abortion rights by passing a pro-choice ballot measure—and lawmakers have responded by making it more difficult to pass future ballot measures.
We have to use every tool in our toolbox, which means not just electing pro-choice legislators, but also pro-choice city councilors, school board members, judges, commissioners, and district attorneys.

We’re seeing terrifying news out of Tennessee, where lawmakers have advanced a travel ban bill that would punish people who help teens access abortion out of state—with up to 15 years of jail time.
This is why we focus on state and local leaders, and it’s is why we’re fundraising NOW to make sure that we can turn out every pro-choice voter in November.
Anti-choice politicians are attacking reproductive rights at every level: from dangerous travel bans to eroding voting rights and eliminating science-based sex-ed for young people.
And let’s be clear: until abortion rights are protected by a state’s Constitution, they’re just one bad election away from disappearing. That’s why we’re working in places like Nevada, where abortion is legal but unprotected, to register voters who can elect lawmakers that will codify and expand abortion protections.
