Dear John, Since US representatives seem to have lost their hearts, we visited 150 of them to deliver new ones this Valentine’s day with a demand for an end to Israel’s genocide campaign in Gaza. This week, CODEPINK co-founders Medea Benjamin and Jodie Evans were joined by American actress Susan Sarandon and over a hundred CODEPINK peace activists on Capitol Hill to deliver a Valentine’s petition to US representatives, urging them to have a heart and demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The House Foreign Affairs Committee’s recent vote to suspend UNRWA funding shows us we can’t trust our representatives to make morally sound decisions, and continuous outreach and direct action to Congress is necessary.
👉 Send the House Foreign Affairs Committee a Report of Their Failures! Earlier this week, Israel murdered at least 67 Palestinians in strikes on homes and mosques in Rafah, the only “safe-zone” (that was never actually safe) in Gaza. Rafah, where 1.4 million Gazans are displaced in tents and makeshift shelters, is being targeted by the Israeli military as Netanyahu prepares for a ground invasion. Israel is forcing two options on the Palestinians in Gaza: flee to Egypt or be killed. Despite this nightmare for Gazans, the US fails to take significant action to end Israel’s genocide campaign. 👉Email the committee directly and tell them: You FAILED! The US government, with all its pride in being the most “powerful country in the world” has failed to prove it can use its power responsibly. The Biden Administration spent the last few days wagging its finger at Netanyahu while doing NOTHING to actually stop the genocide. The House Foreign Affairs Committee, which voted in favor of defunding UNRWA, has failed miserably. That’s no surprise when 50 of its 51 members receive money from the pro-Israel lobby, amounting to just over $9 million since 1990. They failed to represent the interests of their constituents, they failed to provide aid to civilians under 133 days of bombardment, they failed to stop this genocide, and they failed the people of Gaza. If the US and Israel will not stop this genocide, we’ll make sure they’re cemented in history as war criminals. 👉 Don't stop applying pressure! Take action:
