President Trump's ongoing indecision on the importance of stay-at-home orders and social distancing creates a very real threat of allowing the virus to spread further.
It is a false choice to choose between saving lives versus saving the economy.
Experts have spoken about what needs to be done to save lives and to prevent our health care system from being overwhelmed across the country. We must listen to health care professionals like Dr. Fauci as there is no functioning economy unless we control the virus.
The health of our economy depends on the health of our people.
It's also never been more urgent for President Trump to invoke the full powers of the Defense Production Act to get our medical professionals the protective gear, ventilators, and other equipment they need to fight COVID-19.
That's what he should be focusing on -- not confusing the American people or reopening the economy before we have flattened the curve.
The threat of this virus is enormous, but it is not invincible.
If we continue to self-isolate and practice social distancing, we can slow its spread and keep our communities safe and healthy.
I urge President Trump to put our neighbors and loved ones first by adhering to the advice of medical experts and by using tools like the Defense Production Act to save lives.
