Hi team — It’s Cade, Pat’s campaign manager.

We have some breaking news to share, team:

New York’s Independent Redistricting Commission released and passed new Congressional maps today. Here is what the lines look like for NY-18:

The redistricting process has been complicated and convoluted. So, we wanted to provide you with a bit more background on where this started, where we are today, and where we anticipate all of this will go from here.

The background: In 2014, New York voters passed a constitutional amendment that tasked an Independent Redistricting Commission (IRC) with the job of drawing New York’s Assembly, Senate, and Congressional Maps. In 2022, the IRC failed to pass a map, and a special master was ultimately named to carry out the process. The maps the special master produced are the ones we currently operate under today.

Today: In December 2023, New York’s high court ruled that the IRC failed to fulfill its duties in 2022 and thus the redistricting process was not constitutional, forcing the Independent Redistricting Commission as constitutionally compelled to complete its job and to produce a new map.

What’s Next: The state legislature will take up the map from the IRC for a vote. Given that the map passed with a 9:1 majority in the IRC, the legislature only needs a simple majority vote to implement the IRC map. Then, Governor Kathy Hochul has the opportunity to sign the maps into law or to veto them. We expect this process to be completed by 02/26 so petitioning can begin as scheduled on 02/27. We still have a way to go before this process is finalized, but today’s IRC map and vote provided some much-needed clarity.

Team, no matter how the lines eventually get drawn, one thing remains absolutely certain; Pat won’t stop fighting for Hudson Valley families. He is 100% committed to delivering results, securing fundamental freedoms, and keeping our community safe. Help Pat stay in the fight by chipping in what you can today:
