Hi John,
Yesterday was Valentine’s Day—a day dedicated to celebrating and sharing the precious relationships we have with our loved ones. But now, February 14th will be forever stained by another senseless and violent mass shooting. In 2018, Parkland was victim to one of the most harrowing mass shootings in American history. Six years later, Kansas City has tragically become the latest site of yet another mass shooting, resulting in the loss of one life and injuries to at least 22 individuals during the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl victory parade.
This recent shooting not only disrupted the lives of many but also cast a shadow over the innocence of children who were caught in the crossfire. Children - the most vulnerable members of our society - were subjected to one of the most horrific acts imaginable.
In case it needs to be stated more plainly… mass shootings are preventable, and they require comprehensive solutions.
I’ve had conversations with others around the office, and the consensus is clear. We are all grieving, but we are also more motivated than ever to end the gun violence epidemic that plagues our country. Our leaders have the option to pass lifesaving legislation that can prevent mass shootings from happening, and we are more determined than ever to keep up the pressure.
At the Alliance, we re-commit to working tirelessly to enhance gun laws, secure investments in community-based programs, and take on the gun lobby because we believe no one should have to endure the pain of losing a loved one to gun violence. We persist in our efforts because we know that gun violence is preventable. And with dedicated supporters like you by our side, we can help end this epidemic together.
In community,
Renée
