Daily Docket — Thursday, Feb. 14

Here are some recent updates.

  • New York's Independent Redistricting Commission passed a new proposed congressional map for the 2024 election that makes only moderate changes to the state’s current map. The districts now head to the state Legislature for approval.

    • According to Senior Editor and Elections Analyst at the Cook Political Report, Dave Wasserman, “the net effect would be to diminish the competitiveness of New York's map, with a very slight benefit to Democrats.”

  • Right-wing "election integrity" group True the Vote admitted to a judge that it has no evidence supporting its claims of "ballot stuffing" in Georgia during the 2020 election and 2021 Senate runoff.

  • The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals held oral argument in a lawsuit challenging the state's Republican-drawn state Senate map. Voters argue that the map violates Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act by diluting the voting power of Black voters.

Here’s what’s coming up.

  • An Illinois court will hold a hearing tomorrow in a lawsuit challenging former President Donald Trump's ability to remain on the state's ballot under the 14th Amendment. The state elections board kept Trump on the ballot, but the decision was appealed to a court.
