Not on My Campus Campaign, ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt kicked off a tour of college campuses, connecting with students and administrators to discuss what ‘no tolerance for antisemitism’ means, and the action steps that universities need to take to achieve this at a time of alarming campus antisemitism.

Jonathan meets with Miami Jewish student leaders.

The tour kicked off in January at Arizona State University, where Greenblatt met with Hillel student leaders about how to support all Jewish students. He also sat on a panel with ASU President Michael Crow to discuss the responsibility universities have to speak out. At the University of Miami, he and University President Julio Frenk held a roundtable with Jewish student leaders about the challenges they are facing and the support the University is providing. Greenblatt talked about the forthcoming

ADL Campus Report Card and the idea of creating a “race to the top” — encouraging other universities to take action like Miami.

With stops coming up at Vanderbilt and Brown, the campus tour will likely lead to challenging conversations. Vanderbilt’s chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace recently hung a banner in the middle of campus calling for the boycott of the ‘Dores for Israel’ group. At Brown, Greenblatt will meet with Hillel leaders and speak as a part of a series hosted by the school’s Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity.

Lakewood Shooter's Extremist + Antisemitic Beliefs: Preliminary research by the ADL Center on Extremism shows that Genesse Moreno, who opened fire at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, on February 11, 2024, before being killed by off-duty officers, expressed support for a range of antisemitic, anti-Zionist and extremist beliefs and praised U.S.-designated terrorist groups, including Hamas and Hezbollah. Moreno’s mother reportedly attended the church, but it is unclear why Moreno targeted Lakewood in the attack that also left two people wounded.

Helping Teens Counter Antisemitism: ADL and the organization Lost Tribe are partnering to combat antisemitism, providing Jewish pre-teens and teenagers with safer online spaces and effective tools to confront antisemitism. ADL will provide resources and training to empower Jewish teen leaders to combat antisemitism online and foster a secure online community where Jewish pre-teens and teens can engage with Jewish life in a meaningful way. ADL will also educate staff and teen leaders on effectively communicating with online communities about antisemitism and preparing for antisemitic and other hate speech in comment sections. Participants and staff will be encouraged to fight antisemitism
by reporting incidents through ADL’s platform.

Islamic State, Al-Qaeda Call for Violence Against Jewish Communities: Salafi-jihadist groups like the Islamic State and Al-Qaeda have a long history of making calls for violence against Jews. Over the last few months they have capitalized on the Israel-Hamas war to broadcast violent messaging, justify hateful rhetoric against the state of Israel and denigrate Jews around the world. Both have called on followers around the world to carry out additional terrorist attacks on Jewish communities and institutions. These calls underscore the continued threat against Jewish communities worldwide.

Blood Libel on Wheels: Since the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attack on Israel, anti-Israel activists have increasingly used digital-billboard trucks to spread anti-Zionist and antisemitic themes, including a modern form of the blood libel: that Israelis harvest Palestinian organs. The messages have regularly crossed the line into antisemitism, with commentary and imagery that play into antisemitic tropes about disloyalty, power and greed. One message reads, “Israel has more control over America than Americans do,” while another claims, “Your tax dollars have funded Israel’s war crimes” alongside a cartoon of Uncle Sam wearing a hat with an Israeli flag (an unsubtle
nod to the idea that Israel exercises power over U.S. affairs).

Take Action Today

Make your voice heard! Call for the U.S. House of Representatives to pass critical defense funding for Israel and to fund the Nonprofit Security Grant Program that protects synagogues, religious schools and community centers as extremist violence grows in the wake of the war with Hamas. Improving safety and security for Jewish communities is a pillar of the ADL-backed National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism since NSGP provides grants to nonprofits that can be used to install security cameras, reinforce steel doors and learn how to prepare for emergencies. ADL has been the leading organization calling for NSGP funding.

Yesterday, I sent a letter to @MIT President Kornbluth to express concern regarding the student group Coalition Against Apartheid. Last night, MIT got it right by suspending the group's privileges after it once again failed to follow school policies. #NotOnMyCampus

Urging people to #StandUpToJewishHate shouldn't result in baseless accusations, conspiracy theories about Israel, or the trivialization of antisemitism. But that's what happened after @FCASorg's #SuperBowl ad Sunday night. Our Center on Extremism has more

We've long asked @Meta to take down the Facebook & Instagram accounts of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei & applaud that it's finally happened. He's used these platforms for years to incite violent antisemitism, to legitimize militant anti-Zionism and to make genocidal threats.

We applaud Tuesday’s sentencing of an individual who reportedly provided two men - one of whom threatened to "shoot up a synagogue" - with a firearm and ammunition. This case underscores the existential threat of antisemitism to Jewish institutions and the vital importance of funding for Jewish communal security. Thank you @SDNYnews for your efforts.
